POSITION SUMMARY

The Sustainability Office at Thompson Rivers University is seeking a dedicated professional to oversee and enhance our marketing and communications initiatives. This role is pivotal in promoting our sustainability programs and engaging various stakeholders effectively.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Lead the formulation and execution of comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that align with the university's brand and strategic objectives.
  2. Develop and sustain marketing and communication materials to engage internal and external audiences, including students, faculty, alumni, and community partners.
  3. Coordinate with stakeholders to address diverse marketing and communication requirements while ensuring adherence to branding guidelines.
  4. Facilitate the selection process for faculty, staff, and students featured in various publications and communications.
  5. Assist in crafting and implementing marketing campaigns for the Sustainability Office, including newsletters and social media outreach, ensuring compliance with project timelines and standards.
  6. Monitor and analyze digital marketing efforts, providing recommendations for optimizing social media, newsletters, and web content.
  7. Manage updates to the Sustainability Office website, maintaining a schedule for online content revisions.
  8. Establish and maintain repositories for marketing and communication resources related to recurring events and projects.
  9. Design and refresh marketing collateral, including posters, digital signage, and promotional materials.
  10. Organize photography sessions, producing high-quality images for various communications, while managing a comprehensive photography archive.
REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position reports directly to the Manager of Sustainability Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Diploma in Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a post-secondary or similar environment, including:
    • Event planning and execution.
    • Content creation, writing, editing, and design for both print and digital platforms.
    • Experience in internal and external communications and marketing.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to manage complex workloads and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills tailored for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in writing, editing, and designing content for various publications.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in MS Office and desktop publishing software.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Experience with content management systems such as WordPress and basic HTML.
  • In-depth knowledge of current marketing trends, social media, and video production.
  • Strong understanding of event planning and execution.
  • Familiarity with copyright and privacy regulations in marketing and communications.
  • Ability to work independently while adhering to established timelines and accountability standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse student population and understanding the post-secondary landscape.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and using a computer.
  • Occasional outdoor activities for photography and event organization.
  • Physical ability to lift items up to 10 kg.
  • Some travel may be required.

The salary for this position is governed by the existing Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879.
