Patient Services Coordinator, Maternal Care Unit

Key Responsibilities
- Manage incoming calls, relay messages, and coordinate with appropriate personnel for physician orders and patient diagnostic reports, including the handling of fax communications.
- Input patient data into the Cerner system for discharges, transfers to other facilities, and inter-unit transfers.
- Organize arrangements for patients needing procedures, both within the facility and externally, such as laboratory tests and imaging services, by scheduling appointments and coordinating transport as required.
- Accurately transcribe and process physician orders onto the necessary documentation for Registered Nurse (RN) approval, ensuring timely notification of urgent orders.
- Review all patient charts for unprocessed physician orders at the end of each shift, ensuring necessary actions are taken and promptly addressing any queries with the charge nurse.
- Prepare documentation for new patient admissions, including creating identification labels and compiling chart sheets.
- Maintain comprehensive patient records by filing incoming reports, retrieving previous charts as needed, and ensuring proper documentation is in place upon patient discharge or transfer.
- Facilitate patient transfers to other facilities by duplicating essential information or transmitting data electronically.
- Complete demographic forms for Vital Statistics, including the physician's Notice of Birth, in compliance with hospital protocols.
- Communicate with departments such as Dietary and Housekeeping regarding patient needs related to discharge or transfer.
- Perform various clerical tasks, including compiling and maintaining statistics under the direction of the Program Manager, generating reports, and managing office supplies.
- Undertake additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12, with medical terminology knowledge and graduation from an accredited Nursing Unit Clerk program, alongside one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with others.
- Competence in utilizing various computer software applications.
- Ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
- Organizational skills to manage workload efficiently.
- Capability to operate relevant equipment.
- Physical ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
- Commitment to fostering reconciliation and understanding of Indigenous rights and issues.
- Knowledge of the socio-economic and historical contexts affecting Indigenous Peoples is a valuable asset.
