Opportunity Overview:

As an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), you will deliver a comprehensive array of healthcare services to patients, families, and communities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Your responsibilities will encompass the application of nursing methodologies, employing critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Additionally, you will engage in teaching, counseling, and advocating for patients and their families. Your leadership will be vital in fostering an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.

Role Responsibilities:

In this position, you will provide safe, quality, and patient-centered care while embodying the core values and vision of Alberta Health Services. Your primary focus will be to support the Emergency Department's Waiting Room, initiating investigations, managing symptoms, and assisting with EMS offload and the triage nursing team. The APN role in the Emergency Department (ED) is essential for enhancing patient flow by identifying individuals who would benefit from early diagnostic investigations or procedures, as well as administering analgesics and antiemetics prior to their assessment by the emergency physician. You will collaborate closely with nursing staff to manage patients off-loaded from EMS who are awaiting formal care within the department.

Essential Qualifications:

To qualify for this role, you must have successfully completed an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and hold a minimum of a master's degree. Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure, is required. Additionally, current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is necessary.

Additional Qualifications:

Candidates must also possess registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. A successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of a Master's degree is essential. Furthermore, candidates should have completed a Baccalaureate of Nursing degree and fulfilled the minimum required hours of RN practice. Ongoing participation in and maintenance of additional education and/or certifications specific to the area of practice is expected. Compliance with AHS Annual Requirements (as outlined in MyLearningLink) and basic healthcare provider CPR certification is also required.
