Gardewine is a prominent Manitoba-based organization with a rich history that extends back to the 1950s. Since our inception in the northern community of Flin Flon, we have expanded significantly by diversifying within the transportation sector. Our dedicated workforce is the cornerstone of our operations, and their safety and well-being are our top priorities. We are currently looking for a Dockworker in our Thunder Bay Office .

In this role, reporting to the Dock Lead Hand, you will be tasked with various warehouse duties at the terminal. Your primary responsibilities will include unloading trailers and managing the associated paperwork for the freight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough counts and inspections of freight for any damages, shortages, or overages.
  • Remove freight from trailers and organize it in the designated areas of the warehouse.
  • Follow established unloading procedures to ensure efficient freight handling.
  • Move freight in accordance with standards to minimize claims and losses.
  • Enhance operational efficiencies by optimizing unloading times and processes.
  • Prepare and complete bills of lading and other shipping documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and organized dock area to promote safety and efficiency.
  • Uphold a safe working environment by adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Dispose of waste appropriately to maintain a hazard-free dock.
  • Perform additional duties as required to achieve the objectives of the dock.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a high school diploma and have at least two years of experience in a fast-paced logistics environment, particularly with freight handling. Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills are essential. A proven ability to work independently while being a collaborative team member is required.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this Dock position are above average. Candidates must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs from floor to shoulder height, bending and twisting frequently, and standing or walking for extended periods. A good sense of balance and coordination is necessary, along with the ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights. The role requires working in varying temperatures based on the season. Familiarity with operating small equipment such as power jacks, forklifts, and hand dollies is essential. Personal protective equipment must be utilized at all times.
