The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the City Treasurer, you will oversee the effective management of the Corporation's budget, tangible capital asset reporting, and long-term financial planning.
This role presents an exciting chance to lead a dedicated team and collaborate with the City's Executive Management and Leadership Teams in developing the annual operating and capital budget, as well as the long-term financial strategy. You will also manage the general ledger chart of accounts for the Corporation and contribute to strategic initiatives aligned with the Corporate Services Department's goals.
This position allows you to serve the public and work closely with City officials, leaders, and members of City Council to influence the City's annual budget, which supports essential services and infrastructure for the Thunder Bay community.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- A university degree in business administration, commerce, or a related field, along with a professional accounting designation and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible management experience in municipal finance or business management.
- Familiarity with regulations, legislation, and processes pertaining to financial reporting for local governments, as well as generally accepted accounting principles for the public sector as outlined by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City Council members, public and private officials, direct reports, colleagues, and the general public.
- Demonstrated expertise in business and financial management, with a focus on enhancing departmental effectiveness and efficiency through optimal resource management.
