Position Summary

The Hematology Resource Team Leader (RTL) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the daily functions of designated sections within the Laboratory. As a key member of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, the RTL collaborates closely with the Laboratory Manager and the leadership team to ensure the seamless operation of Core Laboratory Services, including Transfusion Medicine, Chemistry, and Hematology/Microbiology.

The RTL is committed to promoting evidence-based practices and provides essential technical guidance to staff, physicians, and both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the RTL is involved in the establishment and upkeep of the Laboratory Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with section-specific technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the Hematology section, ensuring efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership to implement best practices and optimize workflows.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to laboratory staff and healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of quality management protocols.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement within the laboratory environment.

Qualifications

  • Active member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • Possession of a University Degree or Advanced Certification, or equivalent qualifications preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Hematology within a hospital context.
  • Proven leadership and coaching capabilities.
  • Experience with laboratory automation and equipment implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving and facilitation skills, with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Adaptability to changing job demands and priorities.
  • Solid analytical and critical thinking skills, particularly in morphology assessment.
  • Effective time management and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in writing technical procedures and training documentation.
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding customer service and fostering teamwork.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, including Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
