Responsibilities of the Operations Supervisor:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Supervisor is tasked with enhancing plant operations and ensuring compliance with quality standards. This includes optimizing resource utilization, identifying and resolving production bottlenecks, and overseeing all facets to meet or exceed efficiency and quality benchmarks. The Operations Supervisor also plays a vital role in maintaining food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) by ensuring that facilities and processes adhere to regulations. Furthermore, they are responsible for collecting and reporting data on raw materials, finished products, and production challenges to support ongoing improvement efforts.

Key Duties as an Operations Supervisor:

  • Supervise daily production operations, ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion of production schedules.
  • Lead and manage the production team, ensuring operational efficiency and upholding the highest quality standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to line supervisors, addressing staff concerns promptly.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and pinpoint areas for staff development.
  • Recruit production personnel based on operational needs and promote internal growth across all roles.
  • Allocate resources effectively, including workforce, equipment, and materials, to maximize production output.
  • Monitor and analyze production KPIs (yield, waste, etc.) to identify and implement corrective actions for quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with production planning for material and labor requirements, adjusting production schedules as necessary.
  • Identify training needs and select and train plant staff for specific job responsibilities.
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of food safety and quality control programs.
  • Ensure all plant sanitation processes comply with company and regulatory standards.
  • Play a crucial role in upholding the company's commitment to food safety and high-quality products.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance, Production, and Maintenance to troubleshoot production issues and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for a Successful Operations Supervisor:

  • University Degree or a College Diploma in Applied Science, Food Science, or Manufacturing;
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience in production, preferably within the Food or Beverage manufacturing sector;
  • Proven capability to manage, direct, and motivate a diverse workforce to achieve shared objectives;
  • Previous experience in Production & Labor scheduling is advantageous;
  • Proficient in business systems, with the ability to extract data for management reporting;
  • Proficient in the MS Office suite;
  • Knowledge of inventory management;
  • Ability to lift and move products and materials as required for the role;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaboration and build strong relationships across all levels.
