Calgary, Alberta, Canada Alberta Health Services Full time

Your Role:

The Opioid Dependency Program (ODP) offers oral medications such as Suboxone, Sublocade, methadone, and Kadian (SROM) to individuals facing opioid use challenges. The Narcotic Transition Services (NTS) provides designated narcotic medications to clients with severe opioid use issues. The medications prescribed within this program are intended for addiction treatment rather than pain relief.

The Social Worker II will play a crucial role in the initial evaluation of clients seeking access to ODP services. Responsibilities include overseeing client flow, assisting clients with applications, providing psychosocial support, and facilitating access to additional community resources. Collaboration within a multidisciplinary team is essential to deliver comprehensive care to clients enrolled in the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and implement resource-based interventions.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Perform risk screenings and offer counseling services.
  • Manage cases and coordinate care effectively.
  • Assist in transition or discharge planning.
  • Engage in prevention, promotion, and public awareness initiatives.

This position requires consultation and teamwork with interprofessional colleagues and community organizations. The ability to work autonomously, exercising sound judgment, is critical. The incumbent must also contribute positively to team dynamics by fostering interprofessional collaboration aimed at improving patient health outcomes.

Qualifications:

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Social Work is required. Candidates must be active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals affected by Opioid Use Disorder is highly valued. A strong awareness of cultural and gender diversity, along with a respectful attitude towards clients, is essential. Familiarity with multicultural recovery pathways and knowledge of Indigenous languages and cultures are advantageous. Understanding systemic issues such as poverty and stigma, as well as experience with Connect Care, is preferred. Knowledge of the Mental Health Services Protection Act and regulations governing Narcotic Transition Services is also beneficial.
