POSITION SUMMARY

The Bilingual Payroll Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payroll for both unionized and non-unionized employees.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Administers payroll for union and non-union staff in accordance with established timelines.
  2. Examines relevant collective agreements to ensure a comprehensive understanding of all pay components and schedules for unionized personnel.
  3. Reviews applicable policies and documentation to guarantee a thorough understanding of pay elements for non-unionized staff.
  4. Ensures precise processing of all payroll components, including employee compensation, deductions, and remittances.
  5. Conducts calculations for various payroll-related items, including deductions and remittances.
  6. Processes all remittances promptly, reconciling payments against payroll records and identifying any discrepancies.
  7. Performs audits of payroll records to maintain integrity and compliance with all regulations.
  8. Contributes to the identification and implementation of enhancements to payroll processes and systems.
  9. Serves as the primary contact for payroll inquiries from employees, addressing requests for employment confirmation, explanations of deductions, and more.
  10. Reviews PIER reports and makes necessary adjustments during year-end processing.
  11. Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  1. Post-secondary diploma with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  2. Familiarity with Canadian payroll regulations and standards.
  3. Ability to execute processes in accordance with established protocols and requirements.
  4. Proficient in identifying, investigating, and resolving payroll-related issues.
  5. Capable of processing a high volume of data with a strong focus on detail and accuracy.
  6. Effective communication skills for data exchange, clarification, and dispute resolution.
  7. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  8. Ability to handle sensitive information with tact and discretion.
  9. Proficient in payroll systems, preferably GlobalView, and quick to learn new applications. Proficient in MS Excel and Outlook.
  10. Demonstrated proficiency in both English and French, both verbal and written.

Certifications

Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification from the Canadian Payroll Association.
