Position Overview

The Payroll Operations Manager plays a pivotal role within the Finance department, reporting directly to the Director of Finance. This position is tasked with overseeing and managing the comprehensive payroll processes and transactions for Nova Scotia Health Authority and its affiliated organizations. The role encompasses the payroll function for over 23,000 employees, necessitating collaboration with Human Resources and other finance leaders on payroll-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

The Payroll Operations Manager is dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service and performance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the precise and efficient execution of payroll operations, guaranteeing timely and accurate compensation for all employees, representing a significant financial responsibility.
  • Coordinating and leading daily activities within payroll and project teams, including payroll processing, employee/employer transactions, and third-party payroll remittances.
  • Providing analytical insights into payroll data utilizing Payroll and Financial systems.
  • Overseeing project management within the finance department as required.
Qualifications

We invite candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Certification as a Payroll Manager (CPM) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP).
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
  • A minimum of five years of robust management experience in payroll service delivery and operations.
  • A solid grasp of payroll processes and key performance indicators.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll legislative compliance and remittance issues.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in SAP, UKG/Kronos, Time Capture, and HRIS systems.
  • Experience in mentoring and empowering teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service and relationship management.
  • Strong management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Competencies in additional languages are an asset, with French preferred.
Work Schedule

This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 75 hours bi-weekly.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $56.81. Successful candidates may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
