Job Description

Role Summary

The Application Team Lead provides strategic guidance and technical leadership to ensure the successful implementation of applications, including troubleshooting, guiding task selection and prioritization, and collaborating with other teams to build, test, and document integrations and APIs.

This position supports Service Delivery in coordinating application support activities with other areas of Information Management Technology (IMT), such as business stakeholders, database administration, data services, production operations, acceptance testing, and server support.

The position requires maintaining current awareness of industry trends in software systems, online delivery, and other IT fields, and assisting in weighing the cost, complexity, and maturity of technologies against their capabilities and benefits to government.

As an expert in software delivery, this position provides assistance, guidance, and feedback on projects led by other programs, examining project requirements and goals, and making recommendations on approach and technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of system analysts dedicated to supporting applications, building a team that demonstrates capability and commitment to their responsibility.
  • Lead the design, construction, testing, and implementation of new information systems that support client requirements and departmental objectives, using a wide variety of technologies within a networked environment.
  • Build effective relationships with application clients, soliciting and trusting the team's advice on the use of technology in relation to business performance.
  • Plan, support, test, and document upgrades to commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and vendor products to maintain continued application stability.
  • Ensure that acquired or developed application solutions are technically sound and completely address business requirements, aiming to deliver solutions in the best possible manner regarding maintainability and usability.
  • Ensure that IMT solutions comply with applicable application standards, principles, and guidelines.
  • Oversee production operation and support tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of applications.
  • Lead collaboration efforts with other technical teams to deliver application services.

Requirements for Success

  • Experience leading a team to deliver application services.
  • Practice of ensuring alignment of solutions to established standards, as well as making contributions towards application architecture.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, effectively and efficiently allocating assignments to team members.
  • A track record of assisting client business areas in identifying and defining customer business needs and processes.
  • Experience collaborating with external government stakeholders, multiple internal technical teams, and business areas.
