As a pivotal member of the team, the Central Control Facility Lead Controller reports directly to the Central Control Facility Manager at Keolis Grand River. This role is essential in offering leadership and support to the CCF Manager, ensuring the Control Room operates safely and efficiently while optimizing resources to enhance passenger service.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and assist in the execution of Central Control Facility and Operations Department tasks:

  • Direct all rail movements along the network and troubleshoot any equipment malfunctions, reporting issues to the Infrastructure Department;
  • Coordinate necessary resources, including LRV Operators, as needed;
  • Ensure compliance with break schedules and room rotations, providing coverage when required;
  • Manage the Permit to Work process, including OCS management and associated protocols;
  • Monitor safety and security measures through CCTV and emergency help points;
  • Fulfill the duties of an LRV Operator when necessary on the network;
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by management;

Plan and implement incident response strategies for the entire Waterloo Light Rail network:

  • Assist the CCF Manager in leading incident responses and addressing failures safely;
  • Manage service performance in line with operational, emergency, and incident response protocols;
  • Act as KGR Commander during on-site incident responses, coordinating recovery efforts.

Provide training and mentorship for the CCF Team:

  • Support the CCF Manager in coaching, motivating, and fostering effective communication among Control Room Operators to ensure efficient passenger services and adherence to schedules;
  • Participate in onboarding new employees and conducting refresher training for existing staff;
  • Assist in maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure Control Room personnel are well-versed in these procedures;
  • Stay updated on all changes to rules, procedures, and operational practices, ensuring thorough understanding among staff;
  • Conduct ongoing reviews of Operations Procedures;
  • Generate daily operations reports and performance metrics;
  • Ensure all work aligns with quality management standards as outlined in company directives;
  • Execute all tasks safely, adhering to relevant company protocols.

Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in a railway Control Room environment;
  • A minimum of 1 year of SCADA experience;
  • Ability to learn and apply operating rules and procedures for various railway conditions;
  • Competence in understanding and communicating technical information clearly;
  • Capability to manage conflicting priorities calmly and transparently;
  • Awareness of levels of responsibility and accountability;
  • Possession of a valid G class driver’s license;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Preparedness to support a 24/7 operation, including various shifts, weekends, and holidays;
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills with a desire for professional growth.
