Job Summary

The Clinical Extern Coordinator is a key member of the healthcare team, providing guidance and support to Clinical Externs who are respiratory therapy students working as unregulated care providers in their respective units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement the Clinical Extern Program across multiple units of the hospital, ensuring successful integration of Clinical Externs into their units.
  • Support Clinical Externs in their practice, adhering to respiratory therapy professional standards and hospital policies.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure high-quality patient care and a positive patient experience.
  • Act as a liaison between unit leadership, Professional Practice, and Student Affairs.
Requirements
  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.
  • Completion of a baccalaureate program.
  • Completion of a respiratory therapy diploma.
  • Completion of a preceptorship workshop.
  • Clinical instructor experience preferred.
  • Clinical supervisory experience considered an asset.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Previous related experience in acute medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, or critical care.
  • Knowledge of the respiratory care plan and ability to utilize problem-solving and critical-thinking techniques effectively in an acute medical setting.
  • Knowledge of current respiratory therapy assessment and management of adult, pediatric, and geriatric medicine patients, including rehabilitative approaches to patient care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
