Temporary Assignment - approximately 25 weeks
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Case Assessment Specialist is responsible for delivering clinical support to the WSIB Specialty Programs at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. This includes coordinating services with WSIB case managers and nurse consultants, conducting assessments within multidisciplinary teams, and preparing and reviewing detailed reports. The specialist will play a key role in formulating return-to-work recommendations for injured workers, utilizing evidence-based rehabilitation strategies and best practices in return-to-work protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree is mandatory
- Current Registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists or Chiropractors of Ontario
- Professional Liability Insurance is essential
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Rehabilitation is required
- At least 2 years of experience with WSIB Point of Care, Specialty Programs, or Regional Evaluation Centres is necessary
- Extensive knowledge of rehabilitation principles is expected
- Understanding of Return-to-Work principles is crucial
- Familiarity with WSIB programs is important
- Expertise in managing and educating on spine-related conditions/injuries/surgeries is required
- Knowledge in managing and educating on traumatic brain injuries is considered beneficial
- Experience in ergonomic assessments and consultations is an asset
- Strong patient assessment capabilities and program planning experience are required
- Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel)
- Ability to meet deadlines and adhere to customer Service Level Agreements is essential
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct assessments as part of a multidisciplinary team with medical specialists and generate reports for WSIB
- Review and prepare clinical case summaries for presentation to medical specialists
- Collaborate with medical specialists to devise treatment and return-to-work recommendations
- Ensure clinical report content is consistent and accurately reflects patient conditions
- Critically evaluate clinical files to identify potential impacts on stakeholders (WSIB, patient, employer) and provide management recommendations
- Act as a liaison among WSIB Case Managers, Nurse Consultants, and patients to communicate treatment recommendations and return-to-work strategies.
- Address concerns from WSIB, Physicians, and patients, working with management to identify issues and implement solutions.
- Assess incoming referrals to ensure timely and appropriate evaluations.
- Handle administrative tasks, including correspondence preparation, word processing, and document formatting
- Represent the department on internal and external committees as requested by management.
- Gather information and present it to the project manager, highlighting program learning requirements and assisting with implementation.
- Contribute to corporate initiatives that align with SJHH's mission, vision, and values.
- Perform duties in a manner that promotes a culture of patient and staff safety through accountability, reliability, trust, and teamwork.
- Comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards and deficiencies promptly.
