Position Overview:

The Facility Maintenance Attendant is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of the building environment. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning tasks and preparing the facility for events by setting up and dismantling furniture as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly clean and sanitize sinks, countertops, toilets, and all frequently touched surfaces.
  • Polish stainless steel fixtures to maintain their appearance.
  • Maintain floors through various methods including dry and wet mopping, using floor scrubbers, and performing burnishing and buffing.
  • Dust and clean furniture and shelving units.
  • Ensure entrance doors, windows, and glass surfaces are clean.
  • Sanitize water fountains to ensure hygiene.
  • Manage waste disposal, including garbage, compost, and recycling.
  • Restock paper products in restrooms and common areas.
  • Wipe down lockers and other shared spaces.
  • Respond promptly to spills and other urgent cleaning needs throughout the day.
  • Maintain cleanliness in stairwells through sweeping and damp mopping.
  • Report any damages or vandalism to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Order cleaning supplies and maintain inventory levels.
  • Set up and take down furniture for rentals and events.
  • Prepare floors for events by cleaning and mopping as necessary.
  • Ensure tables are wiped down and arranged according to specifications.
  • Return furniture to storage after events.
  • Utilize various floor cleaning equipment as required.
  • Assist in the annual maintenance of floors, including stripping and waxing.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of partial secondary education and a minimum of three months of experience in a custodial role.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts to meet operational needs.
  • Understanding of proper cleaning techniques and floor care standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in custodial services.
  • Familiarity with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) for safe handling of materials.
  • Knowledge of custodial equipment operation, including floor scrubbers and steam cleaners.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • A valid driver's license may be required.
  • Reliability and a positive work ethic are essential.
