The Sales Representative for Animal Nutrition is accountable for driving profitable and sustainable growth within the designated sales region, focusing on establishing new client connections and expanding existing accounts. This role emphasizes feed additives, nutritional health solutions, feed ingredients, specialty pet components, and various agricultural products. A comprehensive understanding of the company's offerings, market trends, and competitive landscape is essential for identifying and delivering innovative solutions to meet customers' animal nutrition requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Develop New Sales Opportunities

  • Enhance the growth of the assigned territory by identifying and engaging new customers.
  • Utilize effective sales techniques during outreach to ensure clear communication of the company's brand and position in the animal nutrition sector.
  • Arrange meetings (both virtual and in-person) with key stakeholders such as purchasing, R&D, and marketing teams at potential clients.
  • Continuously track sales performance against established targets and provide detailed updates and reports.
  • Guide prospects through the sales process to secure new business opportunities.
  • Employ appropriate strategies to gain a deep understanding of customer operations and identify potential needs.
  • Leverage technical knowledge to showcase value during the sales process.
  • Prepare and conduct sales presentations and product demonstrations as necessary.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Maintain up-to-date records in the CRM system with accurate contact information.
  • Participate in local industry associations and events to enhance visibility.

Manage and Grow Existing Accounts

  • Oversee all accounts to drive growth by increasing product sales with current customers.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams and nutritionists in dairy, poultry, and swine sectors to refine sales strategies and maximize profitability through technical product upselling and cross-selling.
  • Proactively seek to diversify the product sales portfolio by initiating projects that leverage existing products or require new product sourcing.
  • Establish relationships with multiple key contacts within active accounts.
  • Secure meetings with purchasing, R&D, and marketing contacts to foster collaboration.
  • Keep the sales pipeline updated with qualified opportunities.
  • Guide prospects through the sales process to secure new business within existing accounts.
  • Conduct research and prepare sales presentations and product demonstrations as required.
  • Build customer relationships through engagement at social events, trade shows, and industry functions.
  • Review monthly sales reports to identify trends in sales performance by product and customer.
  • Ensure CRM is updated with accurate contact details.

Market Research and Analysis

  • Conduct ongoing market research to monitor trends and competitive dynamics, recommending strategic actions to maintain competitiveness.
  • Become knowledgeable about the end-product industry through research and networking.
  • Utilize industry insights to offer innovative solutions to customers' animal nutrition challenges.

Internal Collaboration

  • Maintain regular communication with Sales, Customer Service, and Marketing to meet customer needs effectively.
  • Assist marketing in developing tools for launching new or improved products.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss key accounts and prioritize activities for optimal territory growth.
  • Support internal resource teams as needed.

Administrative Duties

  • Coordinate travel arrangements and travel within the designated region, adhering to policy guidelines.
  • Complete monthly expense reports as required.
  • Exemplify the company's culture, values, and principles.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities, including product and sales training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Business, or a related field.
  • Five to ten years of sales experience in the industry, with technical expertise in species and feed additive technology.
  • Established relationships within the industry are preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to convert prospects into new business through collaboration and technical expertise.
  • Strong business acumen and customer service orientation.
  • Proficient in professional sales management practices, including CRM usage and documentation of sales activities.
  • Team-oriented with a self-motivated and energetic approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and balance workload effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Commitment to ethical professional conduct in alignment with company values.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Valid Driver's License and proof of insurability.
