**Job Summary**

HyLife, a leading pork producer in Canada, is seeking a highly skilled Animal Breeder to join our team in Southern Manitoba. As an Animal Breeder, you will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of improved breeding practices, ensuring the health and well-being of our animals.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Develop and implement improved feeding, housing, sanitation, parasite, and disease control practices for the animals.
  • Study and examine animals in heat to select pigs for breeding.
  • Crossbreed pigs to obtain desirable characteristics.
  • Perform heat checks on animals to determine which may be bred.
  • Conduct artificial insemination using veterinary techniques.
  • Evaluate breeding practices and develop breeding schedules.
  • Assist with farrowing duties, including maintaining records, inducing procedures, and providing treatment as needed.
  • Monitor the introduction of new feed during the weaning process and ensure animals receive appropriate nutrition.
  • Evaluate environmental conditions and identify issues that may affect sow and piglet health.
  • Implement changes to environment and feed to reduce stress during weaning.
  • Ensure company practices and biosecurity standards are met throughout the animal breeding process.
  • Identify non-thriving pigs, determine, and administer treatment of sick/injured animals.
  • Stay up to date on industry innovations and apply genetic and scientific knowledge to recommend methods of improving the breeding program.

**Requirements**

  • Degree in Animal Science, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Zootechnics, or related degree.
  • Self-motivated attitude.
  • Good work ethic.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Availability to work rotating weekend shifts.
