About the Role:

The University of Toronto is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Equity Recruitment Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Student Recruitment and Outreach department, you will play a lead role in ensuring that our student recruitment tactics and initiatives are informed by the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic leadership to a student recruitment staff in the Office of Student Recruitment and tri-campus recruitment teams in best practices for equity recruitment.
  2. Work directly with the communications team and divisional colleagues to develop all equity-based presentations, ensuring that key University of Toronto messaging is appropriately embedded.
  3. Develop strong, trustworthy relationships with all equity stakeholders internally and externally, representing the University in all areas.
  4. Have a strong understanding of Strategic Enrolment Management Principles and Equity Deserving Communities and how these intersect.
  5. Provide input into strategic planning process by preparing recruitment-related data for review by Director.
  6. Hold strong relationships and work with the DUA (financing partner for the Enrichment Academy), Indigenous Initiatives Office, and First Nations House to review and/or develop appropriate plans in respect to efforts for student recruitment.
  7. Function as the primary point of contact for departmental inquiries on issues related to EDI student recruitment matters, both from a strategic and a case-by-case perspective.
  8. Serve as OSR's EDI representative, where appropriate, on various university-level committees and task forces on topics related to EDI; Support the activation of EDI work led by other partner offices at U of T, where appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • University degree (preferably from the University of Toronto); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least ten (10) years of recruitment experience; a thorough and extensive knowledge of the educational system at all levels.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of EDI principles, with proven experience as an organizational leader, particularly around initiatives that promote diversity, access, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to upholding the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion and possess a strong understanding of related issues, including: anti-oppression, anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, microaggressions, accessibility, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and sexual violence issues.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding in how international students and staff experience EDI principles and initiatives and an ability to be inclusive in the support of EDI work with these populations.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in developing targeted training to diverse groups.
  • Counselling experience; public speaking and public relations experience.
  • Administrative experience at junior management level or higher.
  • Experience with discerning which applicants need personal counselling.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of computer, particularly for presentations (Iron Point, Word Press, HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), Picasa, CD/DVD creation and duplication.
  • Student Systems (CRM, ROSI).
  • Knowledge of databases including Admissions Cube (or related data warehouse knowledge).
  • Demonstrated abilities working with social and multi-media tools and channels, such as Facebook, YouTube and videos.

Other:

  • Ability to speak to large groups of students and parents in a variety of local and international venues.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity to applicants in different cultural situations in a variety of countries.
  • Ability to use tact and discretion when handling belligerent or aggressive inquirers and high school personnel.
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times, often in trying international circumstances.
  • Sound knowledge of ethnic demographic situation and its consequences in political terms for the University.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact, understanding of personal needs and rights of enquirers, even those who are unqualified.
  • Willingness to extend services beyond the narrow confines of an enquiry situation.
