- As a Communications Specialist, you will help the communications team in providing services to internal and external clients including writing and editing communications materials. Primary duties include
- Draft and edit content for communications materials for different mediums and channels, including newsletters, web, speaking notes, presentations and social media.
- Develop and implement communications plans and tactics, including creative solutions and identifying opportunities.
- Meet with clients, project teams and service providers to identify their needs, translate technical information into simple terms and discuss creative and responsive solutions and costs of service.
- Organize special events and meetings such as booking facilities and creating agendas and related materials.
- Collect and summarize information and data by conducting environmental scanning and researching industry trends.
- Develop and distribute news releases ensuring the appropriate spokespersons are prepared for any interviews.
- Answer media calls and help coordinate responses on behalf of the Calgary Police Service (CPS).
- Analyze and distribution media clippings.

**Qualifications**
- A degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field and at least 1 year of related experience.
- A high level of understanding and implementing Canadian Press (CP) Style is required for this position.
- Previous work experience in a police environment is considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires efficiency and thoroughness, focus on results, service orientation, impact and influence and relationship building. A strong communicator with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with time sensitive deadlines.

**Working Conditions**:There are several physical requirements of this position, including deployment outside of the office. Long periods of standing and/or walking, movement of equipment to locations as required, as well as field work in a variety of environments.
