Program Manager, Hotchkiss Brain Institute

**Description**
The primary purpose of the Program Manager position is to oversee, coordinate, and execute multiple strategic programs within the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI), driving forward the institute's innovation and research goals. The Program Manager will be responsible for leading large cross-functional projects across various domains, including research, education, and mental health initiatives, ensuring that all programs are delivered effectively, within scope, and on budget. In addition, this role will involve managing program coordinators, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, and overseeing program reporting.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Project Management and Execution:
- Lead, manage, or participate in large cross-functional projects and programs across the HBI including research, innovation, education, international, transdisciplinary, and mental health
- Provide in-scope supervision and oversight for individual program coordinators (MIST, ISRRA, others)
- Design and coordinate the overall vision, goals, and activities of multiple programs within the institute
- Oversee administration of programs (including budgeting, reporting, procurement and Human Resources requirements) in collaboration with HBI established structure
- Ensure the execution of all program elements (Project Initiation, Project Planning, Evaluation, Project Close out)
- Ensuring projects are delivered in scope, on time, and within budget
- Work with a variety of stakeholder (researchers, scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders) to accomplish HBI goals
- Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including funding agencies, academic partners, government, and community organizations, building diverse relationships
- Engage the University of Calgary community and other internal stakeholders to align program activities with HBI's goals and priorities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the programs in the portfolio of the role
- Representing HBI at appropriate events
- Provide recommendations to senior leadership
- Lead and coordinate all HBI internal and external reporting
- Support programmatic communications, including drafting of proposals and project management documents, and content for newsletters and social media to promote programs and research findings
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Completion of a master's degree in a science or business discipline is preferred, however, a combination of experience, training, and education may be considered
- A minimum of 5-7 years of project management experience, preferably within an academic, research, or healthcare environment; at least 3 years leading programs preferred
- 3-4 years of people management experience, leading teams and working cross-functionally with different disciplines
- Strong knowledge of science communication
- PMP considered an asset
- A career pathway that demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences
- Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic, collaborative team
- Experience managing a research program in a research intensive, academic environment, or in other large organizations, is an asset
- Proven ability to engage and build working partnerships with various stakeholder groups, including government, researchers, social/non-profit sector representatives, and people with lived experience to inform research
- Strong analytical skills in reaching sound decisions and resolving complex problems
- Excellent communication skills, orally and in writing, including demonstrated proficiency in effectively communicating ideas to researchers, policymakers and the informed public
