**Role Responsibilities**:

- We have an exciting opportunity for a Policy Analyst in Alberta Environment and Protected Area's Policy Division.
- Alberta's Air and Climate Policy Branch leads policy development and review to manage air contaminants and greenhouse gas emissions, including strategies, legislation and regulations, policies and programs. This position is part of the Strategic Climate Policy Team, which focuses on the development of policies and initiatives that seek to deliver meaningful and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
- The Policy Analyst researches policy issues, analyzes diverse information, analyzes policies in Alberta and other jurisdictions, and identifies areas where further analysis and development is required. This position also contributes to policy and program development, communicates analysis and findings, consults and/or provides advice, and responds to action requests and develops briefings.
- The incumbent in this position will have the following responsibilities:
- In-depth research and analysis to inform emissions management-related strategies, legislation and regulations, policies and programs.
- Assesses and communicates policy options related, but not limited to, Alberta's greenhouse gas mitigation objectives and broader government goals.
- Identifies and develops policy options to achieve provincial environmental and socio-economic goals.
- Supports the implementation of policies or programs as part of the Government of Alberta's emissions reduction/management approach and other media (air, water, waste, etc.) as needed.
- Coordinates policy implementation and delivery with relevant stakeholders within and outside government to ensure effective policy or program delivery.
- Develops briefing and support materials for the Minister and department.
- Completes requested briefings and communication pieces for internal or external audiences.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:

- A completed university degree in Arts, Communications, Environmental Studies/Science, Public Policy, Business Administration or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience.

**Equivalencies considered**:

- Master’s degree in a related field plus 1 year of directly related experience.
- Diploma in a related field, plus 4 years directly related experience.

**Assets**
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Creativity and in-depth research, writing and editing skills.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of:

- Proper English grammar and usage, as well as appropriate Canadian Press Style guide rules, and plain language GoA writing style.
- GoA and ministry internal administrative policies, processes and practices.
- The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) legislation.- Awareness of climate policies.
