**Policy Advisor (1) & Strategic Initiatives Analyst (2)**
The First Nations, Metis and Inuit Education Directorate is dedicated to supporting systemic change across the education system to close the systemic education gap between First Nations, Metis and Inuit students and non-Indigenous students. Ensuring that all Alberta students are knowledgeable, understanding, and respectful of the rich diversity of Indigenous peoples, including their cultures, language, and histories; the importance of treaties; and the legacy of Indian Residential Schools.

**Role**:
**Policy Advisor (1 position)**

Reporting to the Manager in the Policy Branch, as the Policy Advisor you will provide leadership and coordination/collaboration in the development of policy, tools, and implementation strategies for programs that support systemic change across the education system to close the education gap between First Nations, Métis and Inuit students; and all Alberta students.

The position works in an area that is politically sensitive with complex relationships to build and reinforce sustainable short term and long-term programs and initiatives.

You will be able to foster and champion a collaborative approach, and present recommendations and options to address the challenges, integration and prioritization of programs, policies and initiatives that support First Nations, Métis and Inuit learner needs, improves education outcomes and increases capacity to participate in developing long-term solutions and approaches. Some of the ways you will do this is through:

- Designing, planning, managing and evaluating projects requiring interaction and consultation/engagement with Ministry and cross government stakeholders.
- Leading the analysis process to provide advice and awareness of issues, trends and challenges that can affect the development of policies, initiatives and programs.
- Researching, developing policy, regulations, and guidelines.
- Drafting communication in regard to educational material, correspondence, ministry briefings and reporting.
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships and strategic alliances with both internal and external partners to promote and ensure shared understanding and responsibility to improve education outcomes for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students.

**Strategic Initiatives Analyst (2 positions)**

Reporting to the Manager, Partnerships and Relationships, as the Strategic Initiatives Analyst(s) you will assist with the development and implementation plans for agreements, research, initiatives, programs, grants that are directed at eliminating the systemic achievement gap between First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and other students in Alberta.

Staff in the Directorate work in an area that is politically sensitive with complex relationships that builds and reinforces sustainable short term and long-term programs and initiatives.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
All positions require:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Indigenous Studies, Education, Social Sciences, or related field,
- Supplemented by four years of relevant and progressive related experience.

**Policy Advisor (1 position)**

Knowledge and experience required for this position:

- Policy development
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Conducting research and analysis

The following will be considered assets for this position:

- Experience with grant management
- Familiarity with First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures and ways of knowing
- Knowledge of Alberta’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 education system
