**Location**: MNC Office, #600-180 Elgin Street, Ottawa, ON.

**Position Status**: Full Time (40 hours per week), Permanent

**Salary Range**: $ per Annum

**The Organization**:
The Métis Nation is a distinct Indigenous people recognized under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution Act, 1982. The Métis National Council (MNC) and its Governing Members advocate for the Métis Nation. The primary mandate of the MNC is to work with federal and other key stakeholders to resolve systemic issues and concerns of the Métis Nation such as the fiscal relationship with the federal government; economic development; health; childcare and family services; education; environment, Métis veterans, and language promotion and protection. The MNC represents the Métis Nation both domestically and abroad and seeks to reinforce the Métis Nation’s right to self-government in Canada.

**The Opportunity**:
In addition, an HR Generalist is expected to be well-versed in the laws and regulations related to Human Resources. This is an essential aspect of this role. This knowledge helps ensure the company follows the legal rules of employment.

**Key Responsibilities**:
∞ Complete the onboarding process with new employees and work with department heads to create training programs.

∞ Answering questions from employees and recording and investigating complaints when needed.

∞ Work closely with the Director of Administration to review and improve company policies and procedures.

∞ Handle termination-related matters and prepare termination and severance letters.

∞ Provide training and support to other team members of the human resources department.

∞ Be well-versed in laws and regulations regarding Ontario’s Employment Standards Act.

∞ Draft and revise job descriptions, memoranda, correspondence, briefings, proposals, employment agreements, offer letters and other documentation.

∞ Political sensitivity and a strong sense of ethics, with the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.

∞ Liaises with the senior leadership team in recruitment and hiring for position vacancies on the team, including completing necessary approval forms, establishing selection criteria and interview questions, chairing the selection committee, and checking references;
∞ Monitors staff retention and lends insights and strategy around attracting and retaining a high quality of staff.

∞ Actively participate in health and safety initiatives, taking a lead role in safety optimization.

∞ Ensure tracking of records, reports, and other employee documentation, and that all files are kept up-to-date and confidential.

∞ Support Senior Management in developing work plans.

∞ Monitor changes in trends, best practices, regulatory changes and new technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law.

∞ Monitor and provide guidance to help promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

∞ Maintain compliance with federal and provincial employment laws & regulations including occupational health and safety and human rights legislation, as well as ensuring policies and practices are sufficient to maintain compliance.

∞ Support in the development of creating and implementing performance measures that are aligned with the overall strategic plan.

∞ Promote a healthy and well-functioning organizational culture by implementing a robust hiring process, competitive compensation strategy and performance system that encourages excellence.

∞ Provide input and advice, when appropriate, on how to improve effectiveness, productivity and efficiency in administrative areas of the organization.

∞ Other duties, as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
∞ Post-secondary degree in Human Resources is required.

∞ Minimum five years of recruitment experience. Experience recruiting for Management and Executive level positions is required.

∞ Analytical ability to quickly synthesize complex information and situations and provide

timely advice and creative, realistic and appropriate solutions in the best interests of

the MNC.

∞ Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify strengths and weaknesses and

recommend areas for improvement and growth.

∞ Excellent communication skills: able to professionally articulate a position and the

ability to influence others through reasoned and well-thought-out ideas.

∞ Ability to handle multiple complex projects, work well under pressure and in an environment with fast-changing requirements.

**Knowledge and Skills**:
∞ Understanding of Métis culture, history, and the unique challenges faced by Métis communities.

∞ Knowledge of the Métis Nation's historical, political and legal issues
