**Responsibilities**:
**Position Summary**

The Academic Orientation Coordinator works closely with the Transition, Leadership, and Enrichment Team, The Office of Residence Engagement and Programs (OREP), University Students’ Council (USC), Orientation Staff, and the Orientation Student Roundtable to support the development of engaging, fun, and substance-free orientation and transition experiences for new to Western students. Adherence to Orientation policies, procedures, and risk management protocols is mandatory.

The AOC position is designed to function as a central point of leadership, information and organizational support for the Off Campus Leadership Team (OCLT), and will offer support to academic-based Orientation programming such as Faculty Day. The AOC assists OCLT in recruiting and selecting their Soph teams; developing Orientation Week programs, budgets, merchandise; and facilitating team building activities.

The Academic Orientation Coordinator is an undergraduate student position, working up to 15 hours per week during the school year, and up to 35 hours per week during the summer term (May-September).

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Coordinate the programming efforts of the Off Campus Soph Team
- Communicate and collaborate with the Transition, Leadership, and Enrichment Team
- Liaise with the Residence Orientation Coordinator and the University Student’s Council’s Orientation Staff, including the USC Vice-President Student Support and Programming, and Orientation Coordinator
- Participate in OC Head Soph interview, assist with the selection of Programming Assistants, and support the team selection process
- Help coordinate, plan and participate in Soph, Head Soph, and Programming Assistant training
- Attend bi-weekly OC and Residence Head Soph meetings during the summer and academic year
- Host bi-weekly Head Soph one on one meetings
- Develop and implement Soph recognition and recruitment initiatives throughout the academic year
- Complete projects as assigned in service of the overarching vision and goals of the Orientation Program.
- Must be willing to work irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends when required.

**Planning, Organizing and Problem Solving**
- Attend all Head Soph & Leadership Team training sessions (Winter/Spring) and OC/Residence Soph Team Retreats (Summer)
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and facilitation of O Week OC/Residence Leaders Retreat, OC/Residence Soph Training during the summer (August/September), and January Professional Development
- Support the development, planning and facilitation of academically focused training in collaboration with the Community Engagement Coordinator and other campus stakeholders.
- Assist the Student Experience and Engagement Coordinator in the planning and coordination of “Residence Based” Day, Neighborhood Programming, and Faculty Day.
- Assist the Head Soph in the planning and execution of late-night events during Orientation Week.
- Assist with the identification of International Student needs, as well as the development and implementation of programming for International Student Orientation
- Assist with summer projects and year-long program planning
- Develop schedules and help coordinate the oversight of Student Experience student volunteers
- Escalate challenging situations where appropriate, notifying administrator of situations or behaviors that run counter to the goals of the program.
