**Job Description**:

Reporting to the Director, Medical Staff Quality, Analytics and Clinical Improvement, and working in partnership with various medical leaders, the Manager, Medical Staff Communications, Education & Development is responsible and accountable for leading priority initiatives and operational activities relating to the experience, engagement, retention and growth of medical staff and medical leaders within Island Health. The Manager leads a team of direct and indirect reports supporting the development and overall program for Medical Staff Communication, Education and Development in Medical and Academic Affairs at Island Health.

This position is intensely complex due to the inherently unique characteristics of medical staff culture and their various contractual and accountability relationships with Island Health and external stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, Doctors of BC, the Joint Collaborative Committees, Medical Staff Associations, and the Divisions of Family Practice. The Manager leverages these stakeholder relationships, actively monitors and mitigates risk, and provides leadership for emergent and routine medical staff communications in this environment ensuring timely, accurate external-facing communications that reflect the Island Health vision, values, brand and reputation and fosters positive engagement with facility
- and community-based medical staff.

The Manager identifies and acts on key linkages to advance various program responsibilities such as the public-facing medical staff website, external newsletters, e-bulletins, medical staff orientation, medical leader orientation, rural physician community engagement, medical staff recognition, physician continuing professional development, medical leadership development, and rural continuing medical education programs. The Manager is responsible for risk mitigation and ensuring consistency in approach with Corporate Communications.

The Manager develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with internal Corporate Communications and formalized external partnerships with the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues (JSC), Rural Coordination Center of BC (RCCbc), Ministry of Health (MoH), and the Island Medical Program (IMP) to develop partnership and funding agreements and maintain effective relations to advance collaborative work for rural physicians and medical staff education in general.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a related health discipline such as Health Information, Communications Management, or Business Administration, and seven (7) years' recent related experience including two (2) years' experience in change management, quality improvement and project management. Experience working collaboratively and successfully with physicians and medical staff leaders is preferred.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and successfully with medical staff, medical leaders and senior leaders at a strategic level. Interact comfortably with senior leaders in the organization and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively introduce and manage purposeful change and successful completion of a large strategic project within the last three years.
- Knowledge of BC healthcare system and the relationship between medical staff and health authorities.
- Ability to influence and coordinate multiple internal and external stakeholders around a common goal and strategy.
- Knowledge of best practice for change management, change leadership and engagement encompassing the entire spectrum of individual, team level through to enterprise or system level engagement.
- Demonstrated team leadership and project leadership skills, with the capability of providing leadership to a diverse project team with diverse roles and skillsets.
- Detailed knowledge of workplace culture and wellness.
- A strong emotional intelligence to sense the political environment and appropriateness on how to deliver and respond to meet the strategic needs of initiatives.
- Ability to build relationships with and consensus among a variety of individuals.
- Ability to manage sensitive, confidential and high-profile issues with discretion.
