Job Summary
This position plays a key role in the delivery and on-going development of UBC Future Global Leaders (FGL), a pre-university summer program for Canadian and international high school students, and other ExL programs as required. Major responsibilities include planning, implementing and evaluating the social and overnight residence components of FGL and other pre-university programs.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Program Director, Pre-university and Community Programs.
Work Performed
Program Management:
- Manages operational aspects of the UBC Future Global Leaders program and other ExL programs as required.
- Develops and delivers courses, workshops and other educational activities.
- Responsible for the planning and scheduling of social and overnight residence components of programs.
- Selects, assigns and evaluates instructors and student staff and monitors.
- Develops tools for program assessment and evaluation.
- Develops annual and multi-year program plans, including budgeted plans for social activities and overnight programs.
- Liaises with external organizations and agents.
- Prepares statistics, reports, and procedural guidelines.
- Prepares budgets and summary reports.
- Assists in the development of marketing strategies for programs. Program Development and Delivery:
- Works with a range of stakeholders within ExL and across UBC on the development and delivery of the UBC Future Global Leaders program, and other ExL programs as required.
- Works with UBC Camps on the development and implementation of social and overnight components of pre-university programs.
- Recruits, hires, trains and supervises student staff and live-in monitors for overnight programs.
- Develops and implements effective student registration processes and the provision of accurate program
- specific information and coordinates the collection, tracking and executing of all necessary program documentation, including consent forms, pick up permissions, and media consent.
- Collaborates with UBC Scheduling Services on securing and scheduling appropriate classrooms and venues for ExL pre-university programs.
- Responsible for securing and scheduling appropriate on-campus housing and meal plans for ExL students living in residence.
- Responsible for the operation of overnight programs, including the check-in and check-out process for students living in residence, ensuring students and staff follow residence rules and regulations and for addressing student misbehavior or misconduct as needed
- Collaborates with ExL and UBC marketing staff on the development and delivery of effective marketing strategies for ExL programs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works primarily on-campus and is required to be available on evenings and weekends in an on-call capacity during July and August.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The incumbent must exercise a considerable amount of independent judgement, responsibility and initiative. The consequence of error associated with this position is especially serious given that this position coordinates significant aspects of the UBC FGL pre-university summer program. Students enrolled in the UBC FGL program are between the ages of 15 and 18 and most FGL students live in residence. Any errors in judgement or execution could have a very negative impact on the reputation of the University, its faculties and programs and leave UBC vulnerable to legal issues related to our in loco parentis responsibilities.
