TITLE: Operations Coordinator

Surespan Construction Ltd. is a general contractor working on heavy civil construction projects with a focus on bridge construction. Surespan constructs projects throughout Canada.

Surespan is recruiting an **Operations Coordinator** based in its North Vancouver head office. This role is key to the company’s success by ensuring that projects are staffed with qualified employees, and hiring requirements are identified. This is an excellent position for an individual looking for a career in the construction industry requiring communication with senior management and field employees.

ROLE OVERVIEW:
The **Operations Coordinator** is responsible for scheduling and dispatching field employees to projects in consultation with project managers and superintendents, including matching employee qualifications with project requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Plan and schedule worker assignments to projects based on worker availability and in consultation with project superintendents and project managers, matching skill sets with project needs;
- Confirm to workers their project assignments;
- Working with project superintendents and project managers, anticipate and plan to backfill projects to cover vacation and turnarounds of assigned project staff;
- Use worker scheduling tool(s) to generate reports of various views (project/worker) to convey to superintendents and project managers crew assignments to their projects;
- Identify crew/role shortfalls that require recruiting and hiring of new employees to Surespan and communicating these needs to the Hiring Coordinator;
- Communicate crew travel and accommodation requirements to the Travel Coordinator to ensure a smooth dispatch of employees to project sites;
- Communicate crew assignments to the corporate safety manager so that any project safety orientations or training can be scheduled and coordinated prior to worker arriving on site;
- Address weekend and after-hours requests for changes to crew dispatch, when required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

- 2 - 5 years experience in similar role
- Demonstrated proficiency with scheduling and/or dispatch tools/systems
- A mix of civil construction and industrial projects in remote locations would be an asset;
- Post-secondary, technical education (BCIT) or similar in construction or industry-related program would be an asset.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

- A strongly self-directed individual capable of maintaining organization and focus while balancing multiple competing priorities;
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
- Ability to communicate with employees at different levels in the company including senior management and field employees;
- A strong client service approach to communication.
