The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Department of Justice is hiring an Administrative Assistant to join their team. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) investigates unexpected deaths and cases when the cause of death is not immediately known or when the death is the result of violence due to an accident, suicide, or homicide. The Manitoba Fatality Inquiries Act gives the Chief Medical Examiner the responsibility for the investigation of all unexpected and violent deaths occurring in the Province. Medical doctors throughout Manitoba are appointed as Medical Examiners and carry out investigations on behalf of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office. They are assisted in their investigations by medical examiner investigators or police officers.

- Must be able to provide satisfactory Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Checks
- Satisfactory Enhanced Security Screening Level IV

Qualifications:
Essential:

- Proven experience in office administration including managing financial processes and procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience in building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to take initiative and make sound, independent decisions on all work-related issues
- Experience supervising or leading staff with the ability to train, coach, mentor and effectively delegate duties, including performance and attendance management
- Strong organizational skills with experience completing duties and assignments thoroughly, accurately and in a timely manner
- Strong verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability to clearly articulate ideas
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or compatible programs
- Ability to work independently under pressure to meet deadlines

**Duties**:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Administrative Assistant is the senior administrative position in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The incumbent provides administrative and clerical support to the Executive Director, the Chief Medical Examiner, and the Medical Examiner Investigators. This position requires experience providing financial administrative support such as budgeting and cash flows, drafting, proofreading, editing and formatting a wide range of documents; managing files, answering telephones and public inquiries, and must have exceptional communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders. The responsibilities of the position involve planning, directing and supervising the work activities of other Administrative Assistants and students, by overseeing and implementing administrative procedures, establishing work priorities, managing performance and participating in the recruitment process of new staff.
