**Position Summary**
Under the direction of the Director, Legal Services & City Solicitor with supervisory support of the Law Clerk/Office Manager, the Law Clerk is co-responsible for the day to day administrative operation of the Legal Services division to ensure that legal transactions, contracts, agreements, correspondence and records are executed in a timely manner, are in compliance, accurate and up-to-date.
The position also undertakes substantive and professional legal clerk work in a support role to lawyers in the Legal Service Department with a focus on commercial contract preparation. This position ensures a collaborative professional approach, effective and efficient customer service delivery and is responsible for providing professional services to City staff and external contacts.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the completion of all commercial contracts and civil litigation related documents and maintains templates and records logs.
Assists in the completion of Council and committee reports, agenda and related material and provides provincial Offenses Act (POA) administrative support.
Provides administrative support to Legal Services Department to support the efficient operations of the team.
Provides administrative support to Risk Management staff as directed by City Solicitor.
Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications, Competencies**
Diploma in Legal Administration or related program.
3 recent and progressively responsible role in legal services context.
5 years experience with commercial, risk management and civil litigation for court and tribunal hearings.
Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and implementation of plans and policies.
Experience with instructing and educating on matters of law and associated principles.
Experience leading a team of professionals.
**Skills, Abilities, Work Demands**
Must have excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with the ability to influence others (bilingual language skills would be considered a strong asset)
Strong, effective customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a team environment, liaise with key stakeholders and to function effectively with mínimal supervision
Advanced computer skills including MS Office
Strong time and project management skills with the ability to multi-task
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to gather and interpret information
Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to formulate solutions to complex issues
Experience with court document preparation, disclosures to external parties
Experience in contract administration, drafting, proof-reading and comprehension
Experience with workflow management, logging and reporting
Required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check
