The British Columbia Institute of Technology Student Association (BCITSA or ‘SA’) is a non-profit student service and advocacy organization at BCIT with a mandate to enhance student life. Our programs and services are designed to benefit and support all 48,500+ full-time and part-time students across BCIT’s five campuses. Students lead our organization and govern the affairs of the BCITSA. Our Board of Directors is composed of 12 elected Student Executives and Student Councilors from each of the different Schools at BCIT.

**About the Position**

The _Link _Communications Associate is responsible for writing key assigned articles for each issue of _Link _magazine. They will also be tasked with attending important meetings in the BCIT community and writing short articles about any significant news. They are expected to communicate with potential contributors and provide feedback in a positive and encouraging manner. They will be supported by the Publications Coordinator and the Publications Manager. This person is an excellent writer, is comfortable meeting new people, and is enthusiastic about student life.

The _Link _Communications Associate will also assist with proofreading each print issue of _Link _magazine and will attend all editorial meetings to provide insight and assist with developing a direction for upcoming issues. When time allows, they will assist with other tasks such as editing, marketing, and idea generation. They will engage with students at BCIT as often as possible to encourage contributions to the magazine and podcast and will attend events as required. Finally, they will set and attend a weekly meeting with the Publications Coordinator to provide status updates.

**RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Write 1-4 assigned articles per issue
- Coordinate 1-4 assigned articles per issue
- Attend available BCIT leadership meetings as a reporter when required
- Encourage BCIT students to get involved in the magazine
- Collaborate with student editors and contributors to develop story ideas
- Assist with proofreading the issue each month
- Attend all editorial meetings and provide input on direction
- Attend events and outreach sessions as needed

**EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION**
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Great team player
- Current BCIT student
- Ability to work independently
- Comfortable interviewing others
- Ability to attend community events as needed
- Intermediate proficiency with Windows and the MS Office Suite
- Solid understanding of the issues relevant to student life in Canada
