Our Board of Directors is composed of 12 elected Student Executives and Student Councilors from each of the different Schools at BCIT.

The Opportunity

The Career Specialist works with students and employers linked to the BCIT School of Transportation at four BCIT campuses. They deliver innovative career services and programming to BCIT students and alumni. The Career Specialist provides services that ensure students and alumni have access to the information and resources that they need to make appropriate career choices. Working through the lens of experiential learning theory, the Career Specialist facilitates workshops and conducts advising appointments with students and alumni, and maintains a network of employers and BCIT faculty, instructors, and staff. This is a diverse position that involves working with students and employers and working with a team of Career Practitioners to deliver services that adhere to the highest standard of Career Development practices.

What You Will Do:

- Provide one-on-one support: assess student and alumni employment readiness and job search needs, identify any potential employment barriers, and provide them with appropriate support.
- Contribute to the development and facilitation of Career Development workshops both online and face-to-face.
- Visit our specialty campuses on a regular basis and create a sense of community amongst students, faculties, and employers through hosting various networking and learning opportunities.
- Grow a successful drop-in arrangement for students to get job search support in an easy, timely and accessible way at specialty campuses.
- Contribute to the development of learning resources for students and initiate new programming and innovate ways of delivering career education to students.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of curriculum, both generally and school-specific, within the face-to-face and online learning environments.
- Act as a lead for all career events related to the school of Transportation at four campuses.
- Act as a representative of BCITSA and actively participate in classroom orientation, student & faculty meetings, and SA campaigns.
