St. Margaret’s Anglican Church is seeking the services of a Parish Bookkeeper.

The Parish Bookkeeper offers services in direct support of the parish churchwardens, clergy, and treasurer. This individual will provide expertise in financial accounting and administration in a collaborative team comprised of volunteers, contractors, lay staff, and clergy.

Principal Duties:
The Parish Bookkeeper will provide the following services:

- Verify weekly data entry and reports by volunteer counters in the parish accounts database, including correct general ledger assignments
- Compare and verify that the donations and accounts database reports show the same figures for all accounts on a weekly basis and complete a monthly reconciliation for the parish treasurer
- Sort, file, and pay monthly invoices by cheque or e-transfer; mail cheque payments before due dates
- File paper copies of payments attached to invoices for reconciliation
- Check bank account for paid cheques
- Maintain up-to-date CSV spreadsheets of donations and transactions for various parish programs (i.e. Sunday Community Meal; Inuit Christmas Feast; etc.)
- Post monthly Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) figures in the parish donations and accounts databases
- Monthly payment and reconciliation of parish credit card statements on the parish accounting system. Ensure all expenses have receipts and proper documentation, along with appropriate approvals, if needed, attached to all invoices
- Ensure contracts and payments are made and updated monthly on the required spread sheets
- Supply monthly and _ad hoc_ reports upon request to the parish treasurer and churchwardens
- Prepare and review all donors’ tax receipts at year-end with the parish treasurer and churchwardens

Qualifications:

- Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, professional accounting software (i.e. Quickbooks, Freshbooks, Sage, etc.).
- Solid accounting and/or bookkeeping experience including previous experience with charities
- Experience with fund accounting and investments
- Experience with Software4Nonprofits is an asset
- Experience in a church environment is an asset
