**A Day in the Life **

The Science Store Assistant is responsible for the ordering, receiving, stocking and dispensing of supplies, chemicals, equipment, gas cylinders, and distilled water to meet the academic and research needs of students, faculty and staff. The incumbent also supports the disposal of chemicals and chemical waste and maintains the Univeristy-wide Workday chemical inventory. This position reports into the Science Stores Manager, Faculty of Mathematics and Science.

**As the** **Science Store Assistant, you will**:

- Place orders for students, faculty and staff on an as per request basis (by telephone, online, vendor punch-out's, or purchase requisitions in Workday);
- Receive and verify items delivered from Shipping and Receiving to ensure accuracy and completeness by matching purchase orders with packing slips or invoices;
- Follow up with third party vendors regarding discrepancies;
- Organize items received and notify appropriate end users to arrange pick up;
- Create “purchase items” in Workday for each chemical ordered and ensure that it is allocated to the correct inventory location through a Workday Quick Issue upon arrival;
- Create and affix purchase item labels for chemicals at the time of arrival;
- Dispense inventory supplies, equipment and chemicals to students, faculty and staff in accordance with the safety guidelines;
- Perform data entry of counter releases (“quick issues”) in the Workday Inventory System at the time of purchase;
- Prepare and arrange scientific materials to be shipped out via various couriers, including appropriately addressed and safely packaged items;
- Support the waste disposal process by collecting and organizing Waste Removal Request forms, coordinating the requests with waste removal company and escorting the waste removal staff to perform waste disposal, adhering to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act and corresponding safety procedures;
- Sign waste related documentation at completion of waste collection (manifests, bills of lading, work orders).

**What you need to Succeed**
- Undergraduate degree in related field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related specialty);
- Completion of WHMIS and TDG training;
- Completion of First Aid training;
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in purchasing/receiving function in a customer service role;
- Experience working with chemicals and compressed gases;
- Knowledge of scientific equipment and supplies;
- Knowledge of inventory management;
- Strong document management and administrative skills;
- Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills;
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels;
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

**Preferred or Asset Skills **
- Related experience in a Science Stores environment.

**Salary and Benefit Information**
- Job Grade (I), Salary Scale ($43,701-$60,621)*;
- This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

This position is included in the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) Union and:

- Salary is therefore determined by the OSSTF Collective agreement. *
- New members shall be placed on the salary grid at the entry level. *
