The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) manages and delivers student transportation services effectively and efficiently for the more than 68,000 students of the Ottawa Catholic and Ottawa-Carleton District School Boards receiving transportation services each day.

**Position Summary**:
Under the direction of the General Manager/CAO, the Communications Coordinator plans, implements and ensures effective communications programs; provides media, member school board and community relations; conducts research; coordinates public relations activities; coordinates promotional and safety materials; provides operational support and builds a social media community.

**Qualifications**:

- Writing and editing skills for writing media releases, announcements, memos, procedural documents, advertisements and speeches. Research skills for locating and retrieving resources and information.
- Experience in monitoring and using the internet and various social media outlets such as: Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc. and manipulation of all related analytics. Experience maintaining website, writing content, marketing material and/or social media posts.
- Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to exchange, clarify and provide information, leadership and support to staff, and respond to inquiries. Demonstrated tact, diplomacy and discretion when communicating and providing information to the media, public, elected officials, Member School Boards and OSTA personnel.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to community and social issues, experience in planning and coordinating projects, activities and/or special events. Organizational and time management skills to prioritize work and manage multiple priorities, including crises communications. Ability to work a flexible schedule, some evening and weekend work required.
- The ability to become quickly familiar with relevant OSTA and Member School Board policies, practices, procedures, and legislation.
- Initiative and judgement for coordinating various activities and determining information to be released to media/public. Ability to work independently and with mínimal supervision.
- These skills would normally be obtained through completion of a College Diploma or University Degree in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing; and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a communications professional.
