Communications Coordinator (Volunteer Opportunity)


We are a start-up company seeking a Communications Coordinator on a volunteer basis for approximately 10 to 15 hours per week to assist us with developing and implementing external communication initiatives as they relate to opening and operating our business.

This role would be ideal for anyone seeking to expand their experience in this field or for anyone who has retired from this line of work but remains interested in the workforce.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who will take ownership of this role.

This role will offer the ability to gain valuable experience in a communications capacity while assisting us by supporting our vision and mission.


The duties and responsibilities for role include, but may not be limited to:

  • Developing the monthly newsletter template, writing content, and working with other managers on content.
  • Supporting managers in developing and implementing communication strategies to keep members informed about events, updates, and initiatives.
  • Assisting with creating promotional materials, including posters, flyers, and digital content and creating visually appealing graphics, images, and videos to accompany written content and enhance brand visibility.
  • Supporting the team with general communications requirements; including supporting reception as needed.
  • Working with our Marketing Manager to plan a content calendar for regular posting.
  • Creating engaging and relevant content, including text, images, videos, and infographics; utilizing a mix of content types (educational, promotional, entertaining), hashtags and keywords for discoverability.
  • Monitoring social media for potential issues and escalating issues to the appropriate internal teams when necessary.
  • Assisting our marketing team with the use of analytics tools to track key performance indicators (KPI's) and analyzing engagement metrics, reach, follower growth and generating regular reports on social media performance and adjusting strategies based on performance insights.
  • Identifying potential influencers or brand ambassadors and reaching out to establish partnerships in consultation with our Marketing Manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (fluent). Fluency in French is considered an asset.
  • Strong background and understanding of social media platforms, content creation, tracking KPI's, etc.
  • Previous experience in a similar capacity is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
