A Conventional Transit Operator’s success is measured by their ability to provide service with a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style. They have an important role in influencing how people feel about the City of Edmonton. - Communicate clearly, respectfully and inclusively with diverse community members
- Navigate a variety of challenging and complex customer interactions respectfully while multitasking to ensure the safety of the passengers at all times
- Safely operate a 30’, 40’ or 60’ transit vehicle in high-density rush hour traffic and all weather conditions
- Follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Edmonton Transit Service regulations and standards
- Follow maps to meet timed schedules while transporting passengers on predetermined routes
- Map reading skills with the ability to adapt quickly to frequently changing schedules
- Monitor fares and provide transit information
- Check the bus for operational readiness
- Perform scheduled daily assigned work that includes a variety of shifts, including split shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays
- Contribute to Edmonton Transit Service's professional image by demonstrating safe, responsible and ethical behavior in all activities

**Qualifications**:

- Grade twelve (12)/GED or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- License Requirements:

- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license or provincial equivalent (non-probationary & non-graduated)
- Applicants must have held a valid license for the last five (5) consecutive years
- Driver’s Abstract Requirements:

- **MUST** provide a minimum 5-year Commercial Driver's Abstract meeting all of the following criteria:

- No more than three (3) demerits (or equivalent) and no more than one (1) moving violation/conviction within the last five years
- No past or pending license suspensions or Criminal Code suspensions or convictions within the last 5 years
- Non-driving related suspensions of registry services, if indicated, must show a reinstatement date
- **Demerits** **reduced by attending a defensive driver training course will not be accepted**:

- A 5-year commercial driver's abstract must be obtained within 30 days of the Driving Assessment appointment
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style
- Demonstrated experience dealing with the public in a position that requires excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution and independent decision-making skills
- Experience interacting and communicating with the public, providing information and/or incident reporting
- Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in a variety of traffic and emergency situations
- Knowledge of local/provincial Traffic Safety Act
- Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Pre-employment medical examination and a Functional Abilities Assessment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Possession of an Alberta Air Brake Endorsement and Alberta Class 2 driver's license written knowledge test is required prior to training
- Selected applicants must pass all applicable assessments and testing
- Successful applicants must be willing to work a variety of shifts; including split shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays
