- Respond to security emergencies, incidents and general complaints that occur at any Edmonton Transit facility or on Edmonton Transit property
- Ensure Edmonton Transit facilities are secure and patrons are safe by conducting routine preventative patrols on Edmonton Transit property and reporting immediately any potential or actual risks or losses
- Ensure customer service needs are met by providing transit information such as required fares or location stops, responding to injury reports within transit facilities, and assisting passengers who require any support in using the transit service
- Cultivate and maintain respectful relationships with Edmonton’s diverse individuals and communities and act as a positive ambassador for the City of Edmonton
- Exercise discretionary law enforcement powers under federal and provincial legislation, and municipal bylaws
- Work with a variety of security professionals, other Peace Officer groups and the Edmonton Police Service to improve safety as it relates to Edmonton Transit
- Support Transit Operations with safe and efficient fare enforcement
- Collect information and evidence to support court proceedings, insurance claims, and Security and Risk Management activities. Give testimony or evidence in court, as required
- Prepare letters and reports, develop and implement special events, conduct media interviews and public presentations
- Perform other duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a recognized diploma in police studies, security, criminology, sociology, or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of strong customer service or diverse law enforcement experience;
- OR
- Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of 5 years of enforcement experience in a recognized policing or law enforcement environment; -OR
- Two years experience as a Police Officer or Community Peace Officer level 1 or equivalent in Canada within the past five (5) years;
- Must pass the PARE (Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation), COPAT (Correctional Officer’s Physical Abilities Test), POPAT (Police Officer’s Physical Abilities Test), or APREP (Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for police officers) physical fitness test within 6 months of beginning CPOIP (Community Peace Officer Induction Program) training
- Obtain and retain the Provincial Community Peace Officer I Designation and associated peace officer certifications per the program requirements.
- Must be able to be sworn as a Municipal Bylaw Enforcement Officer
- Complete security clearance check including the vulnerable sector background check prior to starting in the position. An enhanced Security Clearance will be completed during the probationary period
- Possess a valid Alberta Class 5 motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Must be able to obtain and retain a City of Edmonton Driver’s Permit
- Ability to obtain and retain "B" Book qualification on the LRT Rules and Regulations
- Intermediate First Aid CPR-C and AED certifications prior to employment considered an asset
- Certification in effective communication programs such as verbal judo or tactical communications would be considered an asset
- Skilled in exercising tact, sound judgment and firmness in dealing with difficult situations and with the public
- Knowledge of powers of arrest, applicable policies, bylaws, acts, legislation
- Knowledge and awareness of the Edmonton Transit System
- Demonstrated understanding of Diversity & Inclusion principles
- Demonstrated ability to communicate inclusively and respectfully with diverse community members
- Ability to use current computer software such as Google Suite, Posse, CAD, Microsoft Office
