**TRANSLATOR - REVISER**

**CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA**

The Communications department provides strategic advice, guides overall messaging and positioning, and provides marketing, creative writing, editing, translation and graphic design services. The department also monitors changes in the physician and healthcare environments, proactively identifies risks and emerging issues and works to ensure that CMPA messages resonate with our members. In addition, the Communications department is integral in driving and supporting change within the Association.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

Reporting to the Manager, Communication Services and as part of a growing self-managed team, the Translator-Reviser provides comprehensive English to French translation and adaptation of all documents and publications required in both official languages. The incumbent also provides quality assurance and revision of French content translated by other members of the Translation team and freelance translators, respecting inclusive writing rules. This work involves prioritizing multiple assignments, managing flexible deadlines, conducting terminological research and using Computer Assisted Translation software.

**POSITION ACTIVITIES**
- Translates documents (medical, medico-legal, administrative, and financial) from English to French that are published in both languages, predominantly including external communications, online articles, correspondence, annual report content, video and audio scripts (transcription, dubbing, closed-captioning), podcasts, social media posts, website material, learning material (e.g. material for online workshops, courses, webinars), as well as all content needed for major CMPA initiatives (e.g. CMPA Annual Meeting, Annual Report, Council elections, etc.).
- Revises various texts translated by other members of the Translation team as well as freelance translators to ensure perfect grammar and correct interpretation.
- Conducts side-by-side review of all translated material to ensure content is both correct and complete.
- Proofreads French documents and materials to ensure quality and consistency of usage prior to publication or distribution to members or other external audiences.
- Performs final quality assurance on all French material prior to submission to printer, digital publication or distribution to members or other external audiences.
- Actively participates in managing translation requests within the self-managed team.
- Works collaboratively with Communications and Marketing team members to develop French language ads and promotional materials.
- Participates in cross-departmental initiatives (content creation support with Physician Advisors in the Safe Medical Care-Learning department).
- Conducts terminological research as required with a view to maintaining a bilingual CMPA lexicon and glossary of terminology using Wordfast (i.e., medico-legal language, medical specialty terms, etc.).
- Contributes to the enrichment of the translation memory for the CMPA using Computer Assisted Translation software (i.e., Wordfast).
- Negotiates deadlines with other departments and within Communications and Marketing as needed and adapts to shifting priorities and/or deadlines as required.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Bachelor’s degree in Translation or related field required
- 6 to 8 years of experience in English to French translation and revision
- Excellent knowledge of the English and French languages
- Mastery of principles and techniques specific to translation and terminology
- Proficiency with Computer Assisted Translation software (i.e., Wordfast)
- Experience in medical and administrative translation is required
- Ability to work as part of a self-managed team
- Knowledge of legal terminology is an asset

- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with a consultative approach
- Strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
