Thunder Bay, Canada Northwestern Veterinary Hospital Full time

**This is a Fixed-Term Contract position acting as Maternity Leave coverage. The duration of the contract will be approximately 15 to 18 months, beginning Monday, April 3rd, 2023. The first three months of the contract you will work closely with the Hospital Manager to ensure adequate orientation and training is provided. Independent coverage will commence on approximately July 3, 2023.**

This position is Temporary Full-Time; Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. The hourly wage range for this position is $21.00-$23.00 per hour dependent on experience.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Working closely with department heads to identify hiring needs and fill openings by posting and closing positions, conducting interviews, performing reference checks, issuing employment contracts and conducting sign-on appointments, and arranging orientation and training.
- Assisting with benefit administration, enrolment and tracking.
- Act as first point of contact for employee grievances and concerns; Investigate and resolve employee relation issues after consultation with management team.
- Investigate and resolve client complaints and concerns; address inappropriate client behavior.
- Manage and maintain employee records: i.e. personal documents, benefits, disciplinary records and attendance records.
- Assist in developing and conducting staff performance reviews.
- Address issues with employee performance and issue disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Responsible for scheduling and processing vacation/leave requests.
- Attend management meetings.
- Develop and update hospital policies as needed.
- Respond to questions and concerns relating to hospital policies and procedures and other employment related legislation.
- Assist in the termination process of both employees and clients.
- Organize staff events such as training, staff parties etc.
- Learn and understand best practices and legal requirements pertaining to Veterinary Medicine as set out by our governing body, the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.
- Ensure to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, applicable Labor Laws and HR related policies.
- Participate in the Health and Safety Committee.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Management Team.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management or related field required.
- 1 to 2 years of experience working in the Human Resources field with experience managing or supervising staff.
- Knowledge of current Labour Laws and the Employment Standards Act.
- Proven ability to act in a professional and ethical manner; strong sense of confidentiality to protect employee and client personal information.
- Strong computer skills and experience using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Honest, reliable and punctual.
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills; verbal & written.
- Strong problem-solving skills to resolve employee & client issues.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
