**About Us**:
Western Libraries provides the library and archival expertise and infrastructure - information resources, technology, people, and spaces - required to cultivate and mobilize knowledge, and accelerate excellence in teaching, research and scholarship.

**Responsibilities**:
The Library Assistant is responsible for the timely, accurate and efficient manner of receiving, copy cataloging and finishing (where applicable) of library materials in various formats (e.g. books, e-books, journals, music scores). The Library Assistant will utilize the Library Services Platform and function in accordance with Western Libraries policies and procedures. The Library Assistant will also assist with monitoring and troubleshooting equipment and with identifying and reporting facilities issues to ensure a safe library space is maintained. The role will be cross-trained to provide support to other areas of responsibility as needed according to workloads, and to cover staff absences.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- 2 year community college diploma
- Experience:
- More than 6 months and up to and including 1 year administrative experience
- Experience in Library Technical Services is preferred
- Experience using a Library Service Platform (e.g. Ex Libris ALMA product) would be an asset
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate patience and focus to complete detailed administrative tasks
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to describe technical matters in non-technical terms
- Excellent customer service skills demonstrating customer support and commitment to responsive and innovative service.
- Proven resourcefulness, initiative, innovation to interpret policies and procedures and identify appropriate solutions
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member, working collaboratively and collegially with colleagues to achieve department goals
- Self-motivated multi-tasker with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
- Experience using Excel would be an asset.
- Reading knowledge of additional languages (e.g. French, Italian, Spanish, etc.) is an asset
