**About Us**:
The Office of the Controller is responsible for government accounting policies and financial reporting, financial management and control policies, risk management (financial and audit risk) and financial business process management. The division is a leader in sponsoring, supporting and facilitating initiatives with outcomes focused on effectiveness, efficiency, best practice and continual improvement by the government financial community.

**Role**:
Would you like to have a voice in the development of accounting policies? Does the idea of having influence over the direction of standard setters excite you? As the Manager, Financial Accounting and Standards, you will promote government accountability through the development of accounting and financial policies to be applied government wide. You will conduct research and analysis on various accounting issues in order to ensure government departments and entities comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). You will also support the ministries by providing accounting advice and guidance to ensure adherence to Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and consistency and interpretation of accounting policies across government. You will work with the Office of the Auditor General on accounting/audit issues and attend ministry audit entrance and exit meetings to provide support to ministries, as required.

**Other activities include providing**:

- Feedback on statements of principle and exposure drafts issued by professional accounting bodies.
- Training/presentations to finance community on new and upcoming accounting standards.
- Support in the preparation of the Government of Alberta consolidated financial statements. You will be responsible for contributing to the timely production of the consolidated financial statements by analyzing, interpreting and reconciling the financial information from all ministry templates and within the ERP system.

To be successful in this position, you must possess strong leadership, communication, problem solving and relationship building skills to facilitate ongoing communication and teamwork within the division and across ministries. Excellent analytical skills, organization and research abilities are essential.

**Qualifications**:
A University degree in Business, Commerce or a related field plus a minimum of four years related experience in accounting and/or Finance as well as an accounting designation (CPA or legacy designations CA, CMA, CGA) is required.

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

In-depth knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards, International Financial Reporting Standards and other accounting standards is preferred.

Knowledge of the Government of Alberta's applicable legislation (e.g., Financial Administration Act, Fiscal Planning and Transparency Act, and Government Organizational Act) is preferred.
