**PURPOSE**:To promote the land stewardship values of Malahat Nation through the presence of guardians on the land, observing and reporting activities occurring both within the developed and natural areas on Malahat Nation reserve lands. Under the Supervision of the Land Director, and in collaboration with other members of the Malahat Lands and Environment team, the successful applicant will act as Malahat Nation’s “eyes and ears on the land” and will gather information that supports Malahat’s land stewardship goals outlined in the Land Code and Environmental Management Plan. The successful applicant will be responsible for observing and reporting activities on Malahat Nation reserve lands, monitoring for environmental and cultural protection**. **_There are two positions. One is a fulltime permanent position, the other is a fulltime term position._

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Land-based monitoring on Malahat reserve lands
- Maintain records of field activities, including daily electronic logs
- Draft reports as needed per program activity
- Participate in training and staff meetings as required
- Promote safety while working on the land and around construction activities
- Promote teamwork and good work ethic
- Work efficiently with other programs at Malahat Nation
- Help create a nurturing learning environment for other members of the team
- Maintain an open and positive attitude towards Indigenous culture and history
- Facilitate cultural and harvest activities
- Other duties as required

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma) or an acceptable combination of related education, training and experience
- Class 5 or 7 Driver’s License required
- Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous and Coast Salish history and culture required
- Experience working with a First Nation organization an asset
- First Aid certification is beneficial
- Successful Criminal Record Check (CRC) required
- Familiarity with Provincial and Federal laws, regulations, and policies related to the environment, land, and natural resource management beneficial
- _Effective December 3, 2021 full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Malahat Nation. All individuals must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of their employment_
