**Child & Family Supports Coordinator: School Age/Youth Focus**:
**REPORTS TO** Child & Family Supports Program Lead

**START** As Soon As Possible

**COMPENSATION** $ 26.76 per hour - $27.57 per hour (NEE: 9) _to _$31.47 per hour - $32.42 per hour (NEE: 15)

**STATUS** 2 - Fulltime Permanent | _up_ _to_ _30-hours_ _per week_

**PURPOSE**:Reporting to the Child and Family Support Program Lead, the Child and Family Support Coordinator will work collaboratively with the ELCFS team to provide support, resources and workshops to build healthy families. Parents and caregivers discover new ways to support children's learning at home while making valuable connections with others in the community. A strong focus on supporting ‘_school_ aged children and youth_’ in a diverse way of learning. _This position works in office with flexible work hours including some evenings and / or weekends as needed, with local to moderate travel required._

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the First Nations who represent the children and their families
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the community
- Plan and implement workshops, programs and training opportunities for children and families including but not limited to culture and language, health promotion, recreational activities etc.
- Work collaboratively to plan and implement programs i.e. food security, parent support groups, after school groups, spring and summer programs, youth groups etc.
- Participate in meetings with ELCFS team, Indigenous community partners and parents
- Develop and implement specific strategies to solve problems school aged children and youth well
- being within the family
- Assist families with household management, facilitate their role in the planning process, and support their participation in community resource networks
- Coordinate sustainable community resources to support the development of children and youth
- Promote and facilitate access to formal and informal support networks, such as relatives and friends, peer group, kinship/foster parent organizations, and/or community resources, schools and service agencies
- Support families in accessing resources and supports located at Malahat Nation and in the broader community
- Work collaboratively with outside agencies including but not limited too Kwumut Lelum Child and Family Services Prevention Team and the local school district
- Connect and work collaboratively with local elders for support on building healthy families, children and youth
- Transport and support children or families to and / or from appointments in authorized vehicles
- Attend training to continue education
- Other job-related duties as assigned

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Human Service Diploma or Degree preferred and considered an asset
- Min of 1-year experience working with Indigenous communities preferred specifically children, youth and or families in a collaborative environment
- Willingness to attend training to further experience and education
- CPR and standard First Aid training is required
- Criminal Record Check (CRC) including vulnerable sector is required
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver License with Driver Abstract is required
- Effective December 3, 2021 full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Malahat Nation. All individuals must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of their employment

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**:

- Understanding of Indigenous culture including but not limited to hul’q’umi’num language is an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture including land-based activities, spiritual understanding, importance of collaboratively working with our elders and familiarity with community preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of UNDRIP and DRIPA
- Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of community and agency resources
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships with children, youth, and adults while assisting them in development of interpersonal, communication, and essential skills
- Demonstrated ability to show tact, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with children and families maintaining strict confidentiality in the course of duties.
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues and challenges of working with at risk children, youth, and families
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and maintain reports, records, statistics and case files
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs including basic computer skills
- Must be able to work flexible hours (evenings and/or weekends) as needed.
