**Cultural Support Worker**:
**REPORTS TO** Director of Health
**START** As Soon As Possible
**STATUS** Up to 30-hours per week | _6-month_ _term_

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Promote and support traditional cultural teachings and practises for Malahat members.
- Provide supportive and trusting relationships to members in need.
- Provide support in establishing and continuing cultural programs and initiatives including but not limited to sweat lodge etc.
- Engage in collaborative community partnerships to promote traditional healing, teachings, and protocols.
- Maintain an appropriate record and information system and ensure that confidentiality is a priority.
- Prepare annual reports and provide accurate data on programs when needed.
- Assist in creating a model of cultural safety for grieving, ceremony, and aid in reintroducing traditional practices to Malahat members.
- Act as a role model and mentor to members within the community.
- Liaise with elders, traditional resources, and administration to ensure correct protocol is practised at Malahat hosted events.
- Maintain an inventory of ceremonial items for use. Attain approvals and purchase items as needed.
- Work with local partners and non-Indigenous community service organizations and institutions to promote cultural competency, safety, and cultural sustainability.
- Work with partners and other governments to support the development and implementation of a culturally based work plan that best supports programs and services.
- Work closely with the Health Team to work towards global community wellness.
- Other duties as required

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Diploma or Degree preferred in Human Services or related field with minimum 1-year experience, or combination of education and experience may be considered
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture including land-based activities, spiritual understanding, importance of collaboratively working with our elders and familiarity with community preferred
- CPR and standard First Aid training is required (training support available as needed)
- Criminal Record Check (CRC) including vulnerable sector search prior to employment required
- Class 5 BC Driver License with Driver Abstract is required
- Effective December 3, 2021 full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Malahat Nation. All individuals must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of their employment

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**:

- Understanding of Indigenous culture; hul’q’umi’num language is an asset
- Life experience working with our local Indigenous community, including involvement with culture and traditions
- Strong organizational and time management with the ability to multitask different tasks
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships with children, youth, and adults while assisting them in development of interpersonal, communication, and essential skills
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and maintain reports, records, statistics, and case files
- Follow established methods and procedures
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs including basic computer skills
- Show tact, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with children and families maintaining strict confidentiality in the course of duties
- Physically capable of performing the job duties
