**Description**
**UCalgary International** is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Manager, International Relations**.
Reporting to the Senior Director, International, the Manager, International Relations leads a team supporting the University's international relations initiatives aligned with the Global Engagement Plan. Key responsibilities include managing incoming delegations, official visits, external missions, protocol, global affairs, and strategic events. The role also involves engaging with the Consular Corps and enhancing UCalgary's external profile.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Plan, lead, and coordinate overseas missions for senior administration, ensuring alignment with international objectives. Responsibilities include developing detailed itineraries, organizing logistics, and preparing participant briefings in collaboration with the UCI Managers and Senior Director.
- Oversee high-level visits from international delegations, ensuring cultural and diplomatic protocols are followed. Coordinate with government officials, faculty, and administrative units to maximize the impact of such visits.
- Act as the primary point of contact for international partners, ensuring consistency and continuity in relations. Maintain up-to-date records of past and ongoing international collaborations, enabling smooth transitions in leadership and partnerships.
- Provide cultural briefings and ensure adherence to international protocols for visits involving dignitaries, ambassadors, or other high-ranking officials. Coordinate with security and government agencies to facilitate such events.
- Lead a team with expertise in cross-cultural communication to support faculties, departments, and research institutes in achieving their international goals. Provide comprehensive knowledge on global education systems, policies, and geopolitical issues relevant to the university's internationalization strategy.
- Analyze and navigate international geopolitical landscapes to identify and leverage global opportunities.
- Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with foreign governments, institutions, diplomatic corps and organizations to enhance collaboration.
- Maintain strong relations with government officials at all levels and university alumni. Leverage these connections to promote the university's international objectives and respond to global developments affecting the institution.
- Recruits staff and develops an effective team for International Relations.
- Performance management of unionized support staff.
- Supports the professional development of staff in building skills for International Diplomacy and protocols by seeking out internal and external opportunities for learning and networking.
- Collaborate with faculties and departments to plan and implement strategic international events, conferences, and workshops that align with the university's global strategy. Lead efforts to build the university's global profile through high-impact events.
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Post-secondary education in a related field;
- 7+ years of direct experience in international relations, or international business working in a post secondary institution preferred;
- Demonstrated experience and leadership in international affairs, and protocol; Understanding of other areas of international activity including: services for international students, study abroad programs and international development;
- Experience in administration in international education, and establishing priorities;
- Knowledge of international agencies, organizations, issues and networks;
- Strong leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse teamof employees;
- Demonstrated collaborative, team building skills and building connections across units/departments;
- Advanced communication (written/oral) and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative, creativity and innovation in work practices;
- Demonstrated ability to undertake effective professional interactions through engaging, respecting, involving, supporting and listening;
- Intercultural sensitivity and awareness with ability to interact in a professional and respectful manner with individuals and groups from culturally diverse publics;
- Experience and knowledge in the operation of a post-secondary education environment;
- A strong background and understanding in cross cultural communication;
- A language, in addition to English, is an asset.
