Limited Term Assistant Professor

**Description**
Applications are invited for a **one-year, limited-term position** in The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary. The appointment will be at the rank of **Assistant Professor (Teaching)**. The appointment start date is January 1, 2025. The Rural and Indigenous Community Route Academic Liaison (RICR AL) is a coordinator, educator, facilitator, mentor, and a team player within the Faculty of Nursing. The RICR academic liaison is a connector between Nursing Instructors (NI) and Instructor of Record (IOR) and Nursing Practice Course Coordinator. The position works closely with the clinical placement team in identifying appropriate rural clinical placements, and the program evaluator in developing and responding to quality improvement assessments. RICR academic liaison fosters a collaborative environment and acts as a liaison between the academic faculty and the clinical staff to ensure seamless integration of the theoretical and practice learning in the Rural and Indigenous community sites. The position reports directly to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs.
**Primary Purpose of the Position**:
**Coordinator**
- In collaboration with the clinical placement office, identifies appropriate clinical placements for each site and term
- Works closely with NPCCs to align week to week on campus lab schedules for RICR groups; identifies required adaptations for RICR sites and creates lab guides to support any variations in the scheduling or content
- Consults with the NPCC and CSLC Academic Lead to integrate and coordinate virtually facilitated simulation within each term at RICR sites
- Maintains RICR D2L faculty page
- Works with NPCCs to organize and facilitate RICR NI and IOR meetings
- Connects with IORs to determine dates/times and resources are scheduled for exams requiring invigilation and any required student accommodations; connects with invigilators to ensure there is an invigilator
- Works closely with NPCCs to design and facilitate orientation for IORs and NIs
- Works closely with the faculty program evaluator to organize and respond to quality improvement evaluations
- Participates in curriculum review of parallel courses and in annual curriculum review days
- Ensures consistency in teaching processes across the program
**Facilitator**
- Facilitates positive and effective internal and external relationships
- Implements problem solving processes to address issues related to course delivery at the RICR sites
- Facilitate discussions with each term with respect to the needs of the RICR students, NIs and IORs
- Identifies and develops opportunities for increased connection between the RICR students and the UCalgary campus
**Educator**
- Demonstrates knowledge and implementation of the curriculum framework, the program and course learner outcomes as well as the class objectives across terms
- Models critical and reflective thinking
- Engages in scholarship using current literature to develop relevant and appropriate clinical placement experiences; participates in scholarly activities in areas of rural nursing education, and exhibits a spirit of inquiry about teaching and learning and student development
- Maintains a working knowledge of Nursing Education Program Approval Board (NEPAC) and Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) accreditation reporting requirements and College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) entry to practice competencies
- Works closely with the Associate Dean, Curriculum Development to ensure curricular alignment
**Leadership and Mentorship**
- Collaborates to ensure that learner outcomes of the are met
- Participates in curriculum review of parallel courses across the curriculum and in annual curriculum review days
- Promotes and provides peer review to support, coach, and mentor IORs and NIs
- Apprises NIs of relevant teaching/learning opportunities, policies and processes related to clinical course delivery
- Contributes to the learning, development and support of IORs and NIs to ensure collegial working relationships that promote a positive, supportive learning environment
- Demonstrates approachability, attentiveness, patience, encouragement, trust and confidence towards colleagues, practice partners, and students
- Identifies, in conjunction with team members, IOR and NI learning development needs and strategies
**Reporting/Committee Membership**
- Supports ongoing BScN development and maintenance on ad hoc or standing committees as appropriate
- Chairs the UCalgary/Portage College working group meetings
- Participates in UCalgary/AHS Rural Steering Committee meetings
- Participates in UCalgary/Old Sun Community College working group meetings
- Participates in NPCC working group meetings
- Participates in UCalgary RICR placement planning meetings
- Member of Undergraduate Programs Committee
**Qualifications**:
- A master's degree is preferred
