The Indigenous Student, Program Assistant reports to the Domestic Programs Director and will work closely with the Indigenous Program Specialist, as well as a variety of team members within the unit. The Indigenous Student, Program Assistant will work with internal stakeholders, Indigenous communities and Indigenous organizations to support access to education for Indigenous peoples and to develop programming related to Indigenous peoples, cultures and histories. The Indigenous Student, Program Assistant will work closely with the Indigenous Program Specialist to support initiatives related to the implementation of ii'taa'poh'to'p, UCalgary¿s Indigenous strategy.
The Indigenous Student, Program Assistant will work up to 20 hours per week. The Indigenous Student, Program Assistant will support the exploration and development of Indigenous-specific programs, as well as non-Indigenous-specific programs. The Indigenous Student, Program Assistant duties will support administrative tasks, student support, stakeholder engagement, market research, program development and process development.
**Qualifications/Expertise Required**:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program, such as Arts, Commerce, Communications, Education, Indigenous Studies, Science, Social Science or Social Work.
- Some related experience in student support, market research, competitive analysis, and engagement.
- Ability to follow directions, understand priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Professional Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to perform multiple and varied tasks, with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to take initiative to manage projects independently and seek support.
- Positive attitude and demonstrated ability to be a collaborative team member.
- Some related office experience would be an asset.
- Some community engagement experience would be an asset.
**Accountabilities/Tasks and Duties**:
Administrative Support
- Ensure prompt, respectful, and responsive communication with students, staff, and community members.
- Perform records management in compliance with UCalgary policies.
- Perform meeting logistics and minute-taking.
- Perform other administrative duties as required.
Program Support
- With the Indigenous Program Specialist, maintain and report on grant requirements.
- Research grant opportunities and compile a database of available grants and funders.
- When applicable, support the grant writing process by creating the first draft.
- With support from the Indigenous Program Specialist, provide and gather information to support Indigenous students regarding Indigenous programs.
- Support program administration for the Continuing Education team.
- Support with event planning and coordination.
Program Development and Market Research
- Support the development of new programs focusing on land-based learning, reconciliation, and Indigenous Relations.
- Together with the Indigenous Program Specialist, engage Indigenous and non-Indigenous stakeholders to support the delivery of programs focused on reconciliation and Indigenous Relations.
- Gather, assess, and maintain competitive analyses of existing and emerging products/services, market developments, and industry trends.
- Perform research on the barriers and opportunities of Indigenous students in post-secondary institutions.
- Prepare final reports on these findings.
