**Description**

**Communication Services** within **VP Communications and Community Engagement** is currently seeking a Full-time Staff Limited Term **Junior Specialist **for approximately 24 months.

Junior Specialists will be placed on one of three teams within CCE: Institutional Services, Content and Social Media Services or Community Services. Working closely with other Senior/Communications Specialists, Junior Specialists will assist in the development and delivery of efficient and effective communications for a variety of internal clients.

The position requires the ability to use discretion, maintain professionalism, confidentiality and composure under pressure, demonstrate adaptability and flexibility and provide efficient, quality service often requiring multi-tasking simultaneous priorities. High volume and variety of work demands, much of which are driven by internally and externally imposed deadlines and requirements, can be expected.

This is a limited term, 24-month position and is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit, and falls under the Specialist/Advisor Job Family, Phase I.

The Junior Specialist works closely with members of the CCE team to implement strategic initiatives for multiple clients. The Junior Specialist is responsible for the development of communication plans for strategic initiatives and for the day-to-day implementation of selected communication activities, including coordination with various clients, writing of articles and stories, generating creative content and developing and maintaining website and social media content. The successful applicant will have a proven collaborative approach to project management, strong time management skills, and an adaptable approach to a variety of communications tasks.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Work with Senior Communications Specialists to set goals and key messages for client projects.
- Help write project briefs and communication plans on behalf of UCalgary clients.
- Development content such as briefing and speaking notes on behalf of UCalgary clients.
- Build websites using the UCalgary CMS Drupal.
- Help build and maintain eMarketing campaigns using Marketo.
- Maintain group mailing lists and manage updates.
- Create print and digital collateral, including video, in alignment with university brand standards.
- Use initiative and good judgement, and work in a cooperative, timely and efficient manner.
- Work effectively within the framework of the University of Calgary, policies and procedures.
- Provide general communications support as needed to the CCE team.
- Understands and complies with the requirements of the University's Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
- Has knowledge of and understands the expectations of the University's Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) and applicable Faculty/Departmental/Unit specific health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all work conducted is in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.
- Act, Regulation and Code and other health and safety legislation as applicable.

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Post-secondary education, preferably a university degree in communications or a related field, graduated within the past 3 years.
- Less than 2 years of related work experience.
- Strong communication, consultative and problem-solving skills, and ability to work with cross-functional teams effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and facilitate collaboration between diverse groups.
- Dedication to continuous learning and skill development.
- Strong writing and editing skills, able to produce high-quality content on short deadlines.
- Experience producing a variety of communication materials for various audiences.
