The **Faculty of Arts** is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Communications Specialist / Videographer.**
The Faculty of Arts communications team positions and promotes the University of Calgary's Faculty of Arts among campus, local, national and international audiences through communications and marketing strategies and activities that support the key strategic priorities of excellence in research, student experience and community engagement.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing for the Faculty of Arts, the Communications Specialist/Videographer position is responsible to develop and create visual content that promotes and advances the reputation of the Faculty of Arts while supporting the activities and initiatives of the institution.
This position requires a focused, flexible, and creative individual with an experienced "nose for news", who collaborates with team members to develop solid, compelling digital content to be used as stand-alone pieces and/or to complement additional content. The successful applicant will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a variety of clients, utilizing their experienced communication skills to quickly produce quality visual storytelling to be used for a variety of channels.
This role will collaborate with both the Brand and Creative team, and the Communication Services team in VP Communications and Community Engagement on storytelling and other key communications and branding strategies.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Lead the creation and implementation of a visually driven content creation plan that establishes the Faculty of Arts as a top tier journalistic resource in liberal arts, humanities and social sciences education and research.
- Create primarily visual content for Faculty of Arts digital platforms, website, marketing campaigns, publications (digital) and social media.
- Develop, concept, shoot, edit and package video content for multiple platforms.
- Establish the narrative to help shape stories being told.
- Manage video and photography projects.
- Demonstrate advanced skills in content creation, including filming, lighting, audio, editing.
- Consult with clients, organizing logistics for video and photography sessions.
- Manage the Faculty of Arts YouTube channel and incorporate analytics into the overall communication strategy.
- Compile accurate caption information for videos.
- Secure required signed permissions and participant approvals for visual content before distribution.
- Ensure content meets UCalgary brand standards, following UCalgary brand guidelines and incorporating UCalgary brand assets.
- Proactively seek out compelling research and other news stories within the Faculty of Arts and its communities including students, faculty, donors, and partners.
- Work with the Communication team to create content for the Faculty of Arts social media channels.
- Develop a video strategy for Faculty of Arts and its marketing initiatives.
- Support development of UCalgary's digital marketing strategy, including programmatic content and recruitment materials showcasing Faculty of Arts.
- Collaborate with individual Departments and Schools within the Faculty of Arts to schedule and develop videography schedules.
- Provide support and technical expertise to departments within the Faculty of Arts that are planning digital content.
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- A bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, videography, visual communication, multimedia, marketing, or a related field. A master's degree is considered an asset. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Media industry experience a strong asset.
- 5 years of experience in visual communication or marketing including experience in creating media relations, visual and written storytelling.
- Proven experience in planning, producing and editing videography and photography.
- Strong visual design skills, creative instincts, and innate ability to create compelling visual narratives on deadline.
- Proven experience in editing videos and photographic assets, using Adobe CS (Adobe Premier Pro; Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Audition and Photoshop an asset
- Compelling storytelling ability and the ability to see multiple story angles.
- Understanding of on-set etiquette and professionalism.
- Ability to coach participants (faculty, students, guests) in video shoots and photoshoots to obtain compelling storytelling results.
- Excellent communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of individuals and groups.
- Strong ability to edit and produce digital assets for various online platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram and IG Reels, YouTube and YouTube Shorts, and size assets for digital programmatic marketing on multiple channels
