**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Position**:Human Resources Assistant**

**Reports to**: Human Resources Manager
**Accountable to**: Police Chief
**Location**: Fort William First Nation Detachment

**Summary of Function**:The Human Resources Assistant will handle a variety of confidential personnel related duties including but not limited to; recruitment and retention, labour relations and health and safety, policy development, organizational development, and performance management and staffing.

**Cultural Specific **o Knowledge of philosophy appropriate for local Ojibway customs and culture for the APS communities with
**Knowledge of Service **respectfulness and sensitivity to the history and needs of Anishinabek persons.

**Knowledge and Skills **confidentiality o Valid Class G Driver’s License o Must be bondable, pass APS background check and provide satisfactory Criminal Record Check upon request o Basic knowledge of the Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act and the Ontario Health and Safety Act is required

**Education **o Two (2) year Diploma in Human Resources or other relevant post-secondary education

**Experience **o Two (2) years of Human Resources experience. o Experience working in a unionized environment. o Experience working in a policing environment is considered an asset. o Health and Safety Worker Training Part 1 and 2 considered an asset. o Knowledge of effective use and maintenance of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Prezi

A. Delivers Culturally Sensitive approach in Services
- Knowledge of various cultural diversities of APS communities and especially specific to Anishinaabe communities; communicate with members of the public and all justice partners in a sensitive and respectful manger
- Demonstrate respect for Ojibwe traditions, language, customs and culture while carrying out duties
- Fluency or knowledge, and willingness to learn and use the Ojibwe language in the workplace

B. Contributes to Teamwork & Positive Working Relationships
- Maintain a positive rapport and good working relationship with personnel of the police service and other justice partners; includes but is not limited to other police agencies, courts and other Anishinabek/non-Anishinaabe partner services located in APS service areas.
- Demonstrates cooperativeness and enthusiasm when assisting others in the workplace to meet deadlines & other assignments

- Coordinating, developing and assisting with implementing a HR strategy and assisting employees with change management

- Providing administrative support and advice on all HR functions
- Update HR Policies and Procedures as directed.
- Overseeing the pension and benefits plan including enrolling new staff; assisting staff with processing
- Be a member of the management/non-union bargaining team
- Performing other duties as assigned
